As I’m sure you’ve noticed, the last few years of most children’s education has been a whirlwind of open then closed schools, being taken, then not being taken exams and the one word which has been a consistent theme has been ‘confusion’.

• Confusion as to how good your child was doing in school
• Confusion as to whether they would be ready for their next year’s schooling.
• Confusion over which school(s) they might be able to get into.

And that’s before one factors-in how covid may have affected a family’s income and therefore may have meant they’ve had to consider switching tracks, taking independent schooling off the agenda and going over to state education instead.

Even more competition

That’s why in 2021 and going into 2022 there is even more completion for the ever-limited places at top independent schools and grammar schools.

Ever since the mid-1970s when the government of the day tried to wipe grammar schools off the face of the English educational map, oversubscription levels for grammar schools have continued to run at 3x – 6x and actually worse for many independent schools too.

Simply put, good enough is no longer good enough, every child will ‘try their best’, and so yours needs to be able to perform at their absolute highest level in order to secure that place at your preferred school.

This means that if you want your child be the one wearing the ‘right’ school blazer when they start year seven, you need to put in place the necessary programme in their earlier years to support that goal.
