I provide personalised online 1-to-1 tutoring for children preparing for grammar and independent school entrance examinations.
My background includes teaching mathematics in schools, and over the years I’ve worked individually with many hundreds of children, helping them develop the knowledge, reasoning skills and exam techniques needed for selective school entrance tests.
As a parent, I’ve also experienced both state and independent education through my own children. I believe both can offer excellent opportunities, and that the important consideration is finding the right school for each child.
My approach to tutoring is straightforward: understand how each child thinks, identify where they need support and build their skills and confidence through structured, individual teaching.
How I Approach 11+ Tutoring
Every child approaches learning differently, and understanding how they think is an important part of my tutoring.
A correct answer doesn’t always mean a child has fully understood a question, just as an incorrect answer doesn’t necessarily mean they lack the underlying knowledge.
During our sessions, I encourage children to explain their reasoning, talk through unfamiliar questions and explore different ways of reaching an answer. This helps me identify misunderstandings that might not be apparent from their written work alone.
I then use what I’ve observed, alongside their completed practice papers, to decide which topics and techniques we should focus on next.
The aim is not simply to complete more questions, but to help each child develop a clearer understanding, greater accuracy and the confidence to tackle unfamiliar problems independently.
