This has left the vast majority of pupils, to work out a way to link-up with their schools via online learning.

This has therefore raised a further problem – not every one of those families already owns a laptop, PC or Mac, and many of those who don’t can’t afford to purchase one.

This double-whammy of job-losses and homeschooling means many families are trying to do everything internet related on one or two smartphones.

This was why the Government introduced its scheme to provide laptops for families thus disadvantaged.

The problem, however, is that the scale of the problem has meant there are many children who still don’t have access to the internet this way.

According to recent data from Ofcom, between 1.1 million and 1.8 million children do not have access to a laptop, desktop or tablet at home, which suggests the government scheme may not be enough.

So if you’ve got a spare laptop, PC or Mac that you no longer require, get in touch with your local school (google the local area if you don’t have children at school) and contact them to donate it to them.
