Preparing for the eleven plus: 2021 update
👔 Are you a parent who’s finding all of this “eleven plus stuff” mind-boggling, because if you are, you’re not alone.
It seems like every few days we receive a message, email or voicemail from a distraught parent who’s pulling their hair out trying to decide what’s best for their child.
It’s certainly a confusing situation to be in.
How do I prepare my child for the eleven-plus?
It’s certainly a confusing process, and one for which there isn’t a single 100% ‘this is the one right way’ answer.
Every family and child may need to consider a different selection of issues, and that’s before geographic location’s added into the mix.
If you’re considering eleven plus preparation, for either grammar schools or independent schools then here are some of the thoughts you’ve probably been thinking (see: we’re part-time mind-readers as well as tutors here at Peterborough Tuition!)
Are these questions on your mind?
- Do I home prepare, or sign-up for group or one-to-one tutoring?
- And if I do take up tutoring, is face-to-face better than online, or is it the other way around?
- When should we start? Year 2, year 3, year 4 or should we wait until when he/she is in year 5?
- How do I know they’re progressing ‘quick enough’… and what does ‘quick enough’ really mean?
- Can I get an assessment as to where they are at present?
- Can my child
- Is it even worth trying to get into our local grammar because it’s so oversubscribed?
And just when you think you’ve got a handle on the problem…
Oh, and what about those independent schools? How do we go about making sure we’ve got those bases covered too, just in case?
Argh! Help!
Call the doctor
It’s enough to induce palpitations!
And so if you’re feeling stressed, confused, worried, and frankly, ready to give up on the whole thing… STOP!
Why not let’s have a chat
Would you find it useful to grab a 15-minute ‘tea and talk’ session with us so you could let go of what’s on your mind and gain a better perspective on the task ahead?
Would you like some unbiased info and someone to speak to, to ask those questions that are on your mind?
Other parents who’ve done this have said it was useful to get a different perspective on their situation.
Yes, we’re tutors, and so, yes, we’re always interested to speak to parents who might want to join our family, but we know online 1-to-1 tutoring isn’t for everyone, so don’t let that stop you from getting in touch.
15 Minute AMA – Ask Me Anything call
May I suggest… ⏳ A 15 min AMA Call 🗓️
🔍 I’ve set aside some time in my diary for parents who’d like a free 15 min zoom call to AMA (ask me anything) about eleven plus prep for grammar & independent schools 📞
🤔 Whatever’s on your mind is up for discussion so if you’d like some clarity, why not go ahead & book a call today ⬇️
We’ve spoken to parents across all years.
Some of the parents had children in year 2 and wanted to ensure they didn’t rush themselves,
Others had year 5 children and contacted us late in their summer term looking for guidance for last-minute preparation.
Anything you want to ask is ok with us.
